Youngster’s Art Club - 5-8 year olds

from £12.00

Help your child develop the crucial skills of creative thinking and exploration through the playful language of art. Carefully designed to embrace the lively imaginations of children aged between five and eight, Youngster’s Art Club supports their self-expression whilst providing opportunities to take their ideas further.

This block is going to get messy! Aprons are available, but many children don’t like to wear them. Please ensure your child attends wearing clothes that don’t matter. Many children have an outfit they wear to every art club that becomes beautifully stained with paint!

Session:

Sessions run fortnightly on Thursdays, 10:30-11:30, from my cosy home studio. With around four children attending per session, or up to six children during the summer when we also have access to outdoor space, each child will receive all the attention and encouragement they need to make great art.

Please bring your child in clothes that don’t matter. Aprons are provided, but children seem to prefer not to wear them, and mess will happen!

Parents are encouraged to stay, and the comfortable lounge area next to the studio has additional activities for siblings (and attendees that need a break from the studio!)

Get ready…

…for a messy, marvellous adventure where your child is empowered to celebrate their individuality. With a variety of art materials available, the balance between structure and freedom allows even the most hesitant of young artists to flourish. In the studio, the chaos of artistic expression is welcomed!

Captivate the imagination!

Every session revolves around a captivating idea or visual inspiration, sparking curiosity and fuelling creative exploration. Join us in nurturing the beginnings of a lifelong love and understanding of art that will provide your child with the potential to excel.

April to July 2026

Get ready to explore our world in glorious colour! Over the next few weeks, our focus will be on investigating, mixing, and understanding colour in art. Each session can be booked as a single, one-off experience, or choose a few for your child to build upon the skills they learn. The full block of seven sessions can be booked together for a discount. Although there is an overarching ‘theme’ for each session, free exploration is encouraged and welcome!

As the weather becomes better, I hope to include access to the garden during this block. Parents need to be aware that there are brambles, bees, and a small pond as well as the usual garden-based risks. There is also space for parents to relax in the sunshine whilst keeping an eye on their children!

Colour boxes

Thursday 23rd April 10:30-11:30

Children will discover a little about how the eye sees colour through the decorating of the inside of a box that can then be viewed through coloured windows.

Colour books

Thursday 7th May 10:30-11:30

Using a wide variety of materials, children can fill their own booklet with colour.

Mixing colours

Thursday 21st May 10:30-11:30

In this session, children will be introduced to the colour wheel, and have the opportunity to mix and name their own colours.

All the greens!

Thursday 4th June 10:30-11:30

The natural world is filled with green, but not every green is the same. Children will be helped to notice different shades of green, including mixing and using their own versions. (This session could also be about purple, blue, or any colour your child likes!)

Opposite colours

Thursday 18th June 10:30-11:30

Using simple image reproduction techniques, children will explore opposite colours whilst creating Warhol-inspired paintings

Using watercolour paint

Thursday July 2nd 10:30-11:30

Children will learn some simple watercolour techniques, exploring how colours merge using this beautiful medium.

Final session

Thursday July 16th 10:30-11:30

This final session will include play with bleeding tissue paper (so fun!) as well as open ended exploration of a range of materials used during this block.

My studio is in Northway, just outside of Tewkesbury, near J9 of the M5. Numbers 41 and 71 buses pass at the end of the road, which is just a ten minute walk from Ashchurch-for-Tewkesbury railway station.

Full address details will be shared upon booking.

There is an intentional overlap in the ages for Art Clubs. This option is perfect for children who enjoy playing with art and would benefit from a place to try out materials and techniques with a little gentle instruction. Youngster’s Art Club explores creativity and inspiration, using children’s natural curiosity to find ways to explore more deeply.

If you are unsure which Art Club would be the best fit for your child, please contact me at alainastorrarart@gmail.com to arrange a chat.
